There are some universally flattering makeup techniques, but applying blush isn’t one of them. Blush suits certain face shapes, making you look healthy and radiant without being too overdone, but in order to find the right shade, you have to know your face shape first. We’ll show you how to apply blush based on your face shape so you can look good every time!
Round
If you’re not sure which blush to use, it can be helpful to think about your face shape. Here’s a quick cheat sheet: A round face is typically more on the short and wide side. Use a rounded cheek brush for best application. A square-shaped face has straight and sharp angles on both the forehead and jawline. For these faces, use an angular brush that will make cheek bones pop. Oval-shaped faces are typically longer in length than they are wide or round – but they can also have a combination of these shapes as well!

Heart
The shape of your face can determine where blush should be applied. If you have a round face, the blush should be more concentrated towards the center of your cheekbones. On an oval face, you can apply it evenly to both cheeks while triangular faces are best suited for a single dot on each cheekbone. Heart-shaped faces are perfect for applying a hint of color to each temple and jawline.

Square
The square shaped face has a very pronounced jawline and is widest at the cheekbones. The best blush for this shape will be one that contours to the face, bringing color to the high points of the cheeks.
The round shaped face has a soft jawline and is widest at the forehead. The best blush for this shape will have some contour, bringing color down towards the apples of your cheeks.

Oval
For an oval face shape, applying blush to your apples (the fleshy part of your cheeks) and high points of your cheekbones will add depth and dimension. Adding a few strokes to the bridge of your nose with a brush can also provide more definition for an oval face shape.

Long
If you want to know how to apply blush based on your face shape, there are a few things that are important. First, the size of your cheeks will determine the shape of your blush application. If you have rounder cheeks, then you should apply the color from an oval shape that covers your whole cheek area. If you have more angular shaped cheeks, then you should apply color from a triangle shape that covers just under the apples of your cheeks.
