Florence Pugh on the red carpet for the opening of her new film “The Wonder” on Friday, Oct. 7, wearing a feather-trimmed cutaway dress by Valentino. Pugh’s presentation at the London Film Festival was evocative of Marilyn Monroe, Jean Harlow, and, more recently, Lizzo’s most famous style moments, as if she were a 1930s socialite preparing for her close-up.

Pugh wore a sunset-pink dress from Pierpaolo Piccioli’s fall/winter 2022 collection, which had a transparent train that might have doubled as a set of wings as she floated in front of the cameras. Thousands of peach-colored feathers decorated the gown’s hem, adding dimension to the design and creating a dramatic silhouette from all angles. The bodice of the dress included delicate straps and a ruched bralette over a horizontal cutout, giving the appearance of a two-piece.

Rebecca Corbin-Murray, Pugh’s stylist, finished the actor’s appearance with gold heeled shoes, a big silver statement ring, and gold drop earrings encrusted with crystals from London jeweller David Morris. The “Don’t Worry, Darling” singer completed her appearance with a vintage Lulu Guinness birdcage handbag. The satin purse, which is available in black and pale blue, also functions as a music box, thanks to a concealed button on the base of the bag that says “Press for Bird Song” in embroidered text.
