If you’re anything like me, you’ve got an overflowing collection of makeup that has accrued over the years but you still can’t bring yourself to toss in the trash. Instead, you’ve got your beautifying tools stashed away in an old box or even under your bed. Sure, it makes sense to keep a small kit handy, but these tips on how to perfect the purge makeup look will help you get the most out of what you have and make sure that only quality products get prime real estate in your bathroom.
Start with a sketch

Did you know that the trend of purging makeup has been around for centuries? When applied to a woman’s face, this type of makeup is often used to look like she’s suffering from an illness and has turned greenish and ghastly. Purging makeup should be done right before a party so that it starts looking even more ghastly as the night goes on. But if you are preparing for a last minute costume, don’t fret!
Add Shadows

Apply light colored eyeshadow to the eyelid up to the brow bone, and then go over it with a darker color to create definition. Blend out any harsh lines, going lighter in intensity as you work outward towards the tear ducts. Now apply black eyeshadow in a thin line all around your eye. Add definition to the contours of your face by adding contour makeup (think: bronzer) just below the cheekbones. If you want to amp up the drama, add some blush on top of that for rosy cheeks!
Choose your color palette

No spooky makeup look is complete without purging: a technique that makes skin appear withered, like it’s been drained of life. Find your colors by picking one shade of foundation, eye shadow, mascara and lipstick. I went with a grayish-purple base, purple eyeshadow and brown mascara. Lips should be matte to emphasize their pallor.
Add Color

I’ve tried the purge makeup look before, but it’s actually really easy to put together and looks super cool! Plus, it’ll help you declutter your bathroom drawer. Here’s what you’ll need: liquid liner (dark color or black), white liquid foundation, and a purple eyeliner. Optional additions include blush (dark color or rosy pink), gold eye shadow, black mascara, and a dark lipstick for contrast.
Finish the Details

Take your time when creating the look and make sure you have a few makeup tricks up your sleeve to cover any imperfections. Incorporate shading, bronzer, and highlighting to add depth to the face and make it look three dimensional. You can also draw in false eyelashes on top of your lashes, or fake eyelashes if you prefer an extra dramatic look.
