Kanye started the show for Balenciaga’s spring 2023 collection, and while Kim Kardashian wasn’t present in person, she made her presence felt nonetheless. Demna, the eponymous designer, showed his collection above mud mounds poured onto the stadium site. Models trampled in the dirt, surely soiling their outfits. A once-in-a-lifetime experience. No way, not if you’re Kim Kardashian. Kardashian replicated the settings of the Balenciaga presentation because she was unable to attend in person. Kardashian posed while lying down in the ground in an outfit that resembled a series of dark belts, Alien-esque sunglasses, and a pair of black slides in a new set of Instagram images. “When I couldn’t make it to the Balenciaga presentation, Demna sent the show to me,” she captioned the series
The belted garment was not part of the collection, but as my Vogue Runway colleague José Criales-Unzueta points out, it has a similar tone to the finale gown, which was designed to seem like two purses fused together (many of the models also wore oversized belts). Kardashian’s bandage-style short was definitely more Instagram-worthy, and we admire her effort to recreating the show’s atmosphere. Our only issue is if Demna sent the dirt along with the outfit.
